Paying for Google, Meta, TikTok or LinkedIn ads from Argentina adds taxes that can push the final cost well above the budget you loaded. It is one of the questions we get most often, so here is what you pay, what changed in 2026 and which legal options exist to reduce the impact.
When you pay with an Argentine card for a service invoiced by a company abroad, such as Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn or Google in US dollars, three charges apply:
On a USD 100 top-up, the total charged can exceed USD 150. What matters is that not all of that surcharge is a cost: part of it can be recovered, and part can be avoided by paying the right way.
The PAÍS Tax stopped being charged in December 2024. Later, ARCA removed the withholding on purchases of foreign currency, which spread the idea that the 30% surcharge was gone. For advertising it is not: the withholding still applies to purchases of goods and services abroad paid by card. According to El Cronista, between January and July 2026 ARCA collected ARS 919,866 million in Income Tax withholdings.
The 30% withholding applies when a foreign-currency charge is settled in pesos. If you pay the dollar balance of your statement with your own dollars, between the statement date and its due date, the withholding does not apply and the bank reverses it on the next statement. Check with your bank how it handles this.
The withholding is a payment on account, not a lost cost. If you pay Income Tax or Personal Assets Tax, you credit it in your tax return. If you are not liable for those taxes, you can ask ARCA for a refund.
For a VAT-registered taxpayer (Responsable Inscripto), the VAT on these services works as an import of services: it is paid to ARCA and claimed as input tax credit, so it generally does not end up as a cost. If your bank also has your VAT status on record, it may not apply the VAT withholding on your card.
Google Ads lets accounts in Argentine pesos be invoiced through Google Argentina, with VAT itemised if you register your CUIT as VAT-registered. Check each platform’s billing settings to see your options: the currency and the invoicing entity change which taxes apply.
For Meta there are local providers that invoice ad spend in pesos, without the 30% withholding, but with a fee for using the line that is usually around 30% too. Since the withholding is recoverable and the fee is not, this option tends to make more sense for predictability or financing than for savings.
If you pay Gross Income Tax, provincial withholdings on digital services are credited as a payment on account in your return.
The surcharge you see on your statement is not all cost: part of it is recovered and part can be avoided by paying the right way.
Ad spend is always invoiced in each client’s name, directly by the platform, and paid by the client: we do not pay ad spend on behalf of others. What we do is advise you on which payment method and billing setup work best on each platform, so the tax cost is as low as possible.
