What we store in your browser, why, how long it lasts and how to change your mind in two clicks.
What a cookie is
A small file the site stores in your browser to remember something between one visit and the next. Here we also call cookies to similar technologies, such as browser local storage.
How we ask for your permission
It depends on where you are, because the law differs:
- In the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland nothing is switched on until you accept. Rejecting sits in the same place, at the same size and in a single click, exactly like accepting.
- In Argentina, the rest of Latin America and the United States the rules allow a notice model: measurement starts active and you can switch it off whenever you want from the site footer.
Categories
- Necessary: they remember your language, light or dark theme and your own cookie decision. They cannot be switched off because the site would not work without them, and they are not used to identify you.
- Analytics: they tell us what gets read, where people arrive from and where navigation stalls. We use them in aggregate, never to follow an individual.
- Advertising: they let us measure which ads generate enquiries and show you relevant content on Google, Meta and other platforms.
What is actually stored
- semcial_consent and semcial-consent: your cookie decision. Necessary, lasts 12 months.
- semcial-theme: whether you chose light or dark. Necessary, stays until you clear it.
- _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics, to distinguish visits. Analytics, up to 24 months.
- _gcl_au: Google Ads, to attribute conversions. Advertising, 90 days.
- _fbp: Meta, to measure campaigns. Advertising, 90 days.
Third-party ones only switch on if you accepted that category. If we add a new tool we update this list and ask you again.
What happens if you reject
The site works exactly the same: nothing you read depends on your decision. We move to approximate measurement, with aggregated data and no identifiers, through Google’s consent mode. You lose nothing; we lose precision.
How to change your decision
In the footer of any page, under “Cookie preferences”. You can also clear cookies from your browser settings, or browse in private mode.
