ChatGPT Ads launches in Argentina: how to start advertising in ChatGPT

OpenAI has opened ChatGPT advertising in Argentina. What was announced, who sees the ads and how an Argentine business can start advertising.

On 21 October 2026, OpenAI announced that advertising in ChatGPT is launching in Argentina. It is part of an expansion to 26 new countries, 14 of them in Latin America, which brings the channel to 89 markets. Until now, Mexico and Brazil were the only places in the region you could advertise from.

According to OpenAI, more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT every week to explore ideas, compare options and decide what to buy. It is an audience already searching in the assistant, and Argentine brands can now show up there.

Here is what was announced, who will see the ads, and what an Argentine business needs to do to start advertising in ChatGPT.

What OpenAI announced

  • Argentina is one of 14 Latin American countries being added. The others are Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.
  • With this expansion, ChatGPT Ads is available in 89 countries. According to OpenAI, more than 100,000 advertisers have already run campaigns on the platform.
  • Businesses can advertise in two ways: self-serve, through OpenAI’s Ads Manager, or through technology partners.
  • The rollout is gradual. According to El Cronista, ad volume will be limited at first.
  • OpenAI says what comes next is more formats, objectives, buying options and measurement tools.

Who sees the ads in Argentina

The rules are the same as in every other market:

  • Users aged 18 and over on the Free and Go plans.
  • Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education plans remain ad-free.
  • Ads are labelled as sponsored and kept separate from the answer. OpenAI states that advertising does not influence what ChatGPT says.
  • OpenAI does not sell user data or share conversations with advertisers, and users can manage ad personalisation from their settings.

Why it is worth looking at now

In ChatGPT, a search is a conversation: users explain what they need, what for and under what conditions, and the ad appears tied to that topic. OpenAI gives an example: someone training for their first marathon asks for meal ideas for race week, and a relevant ad introduces a grocery delivery service they had not considered. Dave Dungan, OpenAI’s global head of advertising solutions, described it as traffic that is “ready to buy”. That is the company’s view, not a guaranteed result: check it against your own measurement.

The other reason is timing. In a channel that has only just opened in the country, few brands are competing for the same placements, and whoever starts first learns sooner what works in their category. The flip side is volume: if delivery is limited at first, the first month is for learning, not scaling.

Being first in a new channel does not win by itself: what wins is learning sooner than everyone else what works.

How to start advertising in ChatGPT from Argentina

  1. Create an account in OpenAI’s Ads Manager at ads.openai.com. For self-serve access, the business that advertises and pays must be based in an available country, and an Argentine company now qualifies. If you had already created one to be notified, check whether it has been enabled.
  2. Set up measurement before you launch. Decide what counts as a conversion, whether a sale, a form or a message, and track it on your site and in your CRM. Without that you cannot compare ChatGPT with your other channels.
  3. Segment ChatGPT traffic in GA4 so you can read it separately from organic and paid.
  4. Review the landing page. Users arrive with a specific question, and the page has to answer it: price, shipping, terms and what sets you apart.
  5. Start with a limited test budget and a single objective. In Ads Manager you set the budget and track each campaign’s performance.
  6. Wait for enough data before drawing conclusions, and compare against what already works for you on Google or Meta, not in a vacuum.

What it costs and how to pay from Argentina

OpenAI has not published prices or a minimum budget for Argentina: each advertiser sets its own spend in Ads Manager. Treat the cost-per-click figures circulating online with care, as they come from third-party measurements in other markets and there are no official benchmarks for the local one.

OpenAI has not yet said how it will bill in the country either. If you are charged in US dollars from abroad and pay with an Argentine card, the same charges apply as when paying Google, Meta or TikTok: VAT on digital services, the Income Tax withholding and the provincial Gross Income Tax withholding. We explain them, along with legal ways to reduce the impact, in taxes on digital advertising paid from Argentina.

Which businesses have the most to gain

We see the most sense in ChatGPT Ads for categories where customers ask questions and compare before deciding:

  • Professional services, education and travel, where the decision takes several questions before contact.
  • Technology and software, where users compare options and features.
  • E-commerce for products that need advice: sizes, compatibility, uses.

If your category is rarely asked about in an assistant, or you sell quick impulse purchases, you are probably better off prioritising Google and Meta and adding ChatGPT later.

Frequently asked questions

Can you advertise in ChatGPT from Argentina yet?

Yes. OpenAI enabled Argentina on 21 October 2026, with a gradual rollout and limited ad volume at first. You can advertise self-serve or through technology partners.

Do I need a company abroad to advertise?

Not anymore. Until now an Argentine business could only advertise through an entity based in an available country, such as Mexico, Brazil or the United States. With Argentina on the list, a local company can do it directly.

Can advertisers see conversations?

No. According to OpenAI, it does not share conversations, memories or personal data with advertisers, and it does not sell user data.

Do ads change what ChatGPT answers?

According to OpenAI, no: ads are kept separate from the answer and advertising does not influence what the model says.
